"Illusional You"
The seemingly disparate sections of this song are an attempt to capture the feeling a person has when they realize their conception or grasp of someone else’s personality is not
what they had imagined them to be, and how it can be challenging, yet interesting, to grapple with and come to terms with this realization.

"Will You Know?"
The words
are a part of a lyric I wrote after completing the melody and harmonic structure of this piece. The final phrase of the melody seemed to ask a question which caused these three words to come to mind. The rest of the lyrics were written after and may see the light of day in a vocal interpretation.

"Sonrise"
Written recently for my son Jonas, it was untitled when the Parker Trio first played it at the Deer Head Inn just days before the session for this album began. On our break he came over to me and said he might have a title: “Sonrise with an O.”
- Jon Ballantyne

"Going Up"
This song started with the first two phrases which are rising melodies. I kept that idea in mind as the rest of the song emerged.

"Blessed Babe"
Originally started decades ago to honor a friend who was responsible for organizing the adoption of our first child, it was a scrap of three and a half measures that came to light recenty. Sitting at the piano, playing it a few times, led me to create the rest in fifteen minutes.
- Gene Perla

"Days of Old" is by my daughter Maia who pulled it out of the air with lyrics when she was eight years old. I remembered this beautiful melody, wrote it down and got some help from my dear friend Steve Swallow who graciously contributed the harmony to this beautiful piece. I told him I have to give him co-composer credit and he refused. He said it was a gift.
